I hereby authorize Volunteers for Youth Justice GEMS and GENTS to investigate my background to determine my suitability as a potential volunteer, including but not limited to a criminal background check. I understand that the information requested in this application will be used only for the purpose of determining my suitability as a GEMS and GENTS volunteer. Volunteers for Youth Justice/ GEMS and GENTS reserves the right to refuse applicants or trainees who are deemed unsuitable for the role of an mentor, who have been convicted of, or have charges pending for a felony or misdemeanor involving a sex offense, child abuse or neglect, or related acts that would pose risks to children or the program's credibility. An applicant will not be accepted when it is not possible to secure criminal and child abuse registry background clearances. An applicant who is not a United States citizen will be considered for the program if criminal background checks can be obtained.
